An Intro of Sorts

Hello, and welcome to my music blog!  My purpose with this blog is to provide a window into the music scene in Dallas, Texas, from my unique viewpoint.  I’ve always been a music fan; I love going to shows, and lots of my friends are musicians.  I recently started a band; although I’ve been playing music all my life, I’ve never done it in front of people, so this should be interesting.  At presstime, we’ve had two rehearsals.  Looking at the Dallas scene from the perspective of a participant is something I’m wildly excited about, excited enough to want to document it.

Music in Dallas has changed over the years.  Pictures of blues musicians adorn banners that flutter over the barren streets of a once-thriving Deep Ellum; T-Bone Walker, et al, gaze wistfully down from atop the lampposts of a city with a disjointed, fickle, yet fiercely proud history of music and art.  Is it possible to form a creative support network in this land of rugged individualism?  Local music seems to be going through a dry spell; was the ’90s heyday of Deep Ellum the last chance for original music to thrive here, or are there new acts, new movements simmering beneath the surface, waiting to emerge in a new musical Renaissance?  Should I just give up and start going to Denton to see shows?

The answers to these questions, and more, are (hopefully) forthcoming.
