what the hell kind of guitar was Rick Nielsen playing on the Colbert Report yesterday?

It’s yellow, it’s big, and it’s got the word “Truthiness” painted on it, along with a picture of Stephen.  How cool is Rick Nielsen?  I think he’s got a contract with Hamer or something, so it’s probably some custom Hamer job – Rick says jump, Hamer hops to it.  The body style kind of looks Airline-ish, although I think that, due to my current fascination with all things Eastwood, everything looks like an Airline to me (it’s sort of like drunk goggles, only with guitars).

Here’s a free download of the episode – the clip of just Cheap Trick isn’t up on YouTube yet.  If you don’t want to sit through the entire episode, go to about the 20:40 mark – Rick and Robin Zander play over the closing credits.  I got all squishy kind of excited when they came on.  Cheap Trick = luv.

footnote/shameless pandering: it was really awesome hearing D.B. Ferguson, founder of seminal Colbert fanblog NoFactZone, speak at blogger conference WordCamp this past weekend.  I want to be lik e her someday.  hooray for successful girl bloggers!

  1. I believe the guitar you are referring to was made right here in Wilmington, Delaware. It was the work of Jim Cara Of Cara Hot Rod Guitars.
You can check him out at http://www.caraguitars.com/
Jim does customs and relics in all levels of performance and price.
